October 15: Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

Today is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

If you’re grieving a little one, I am thinking of you and holding you dearly in my heart.

Please reach out if you want to share anything about them. Also, as a Catholic, I’ll be asking for their intercession in prayer for you and for me.

What can you do to mark today’s memorial if you’re a support person?

  1. Take a moment to learn about pregnancy and infant loss.

If you don’t have much time, just read over these statistics for the frequency of loss in the United States.

Join in the Wave of Light ceremony tonight by lighting a candle in honor of little ones and their families at 7pm in your time zone.

If you want some ideas for how to support a friend who has experienced a loss, check out this list.

If you are interested in learning more about grief theory, read this passage from my book on the topic or sign up for the Haven newsletter to join our free grief theory webinar next week.

  1. Reach out to your friends or family members who have experienced a loss and let them know you’re thinking of them.

It may feel awkward to talk or text about such a difficult topic, but it’s worth it for people to know they aren’t grieving alone.

    Scripts for you:
“I’m thinking of you and Baby (Name) today.”
“I’m thinking of you and your little one today.”
“I am wishing you a gentle day of remembrance today.”

Thank you for your commitment to walking with those who are grieving.

I wish you all beauty and comfort today.
